by Wade Johnson | Last Updated July 22, 2022

How Make Lowrance Depth Finder Stop Marking Small FishLowrance is a powerful fishfinder brand that makes some of the most reliable and accurate fish finders. They are known for accuracy and an easy-to-customize interface. The Lowrance fishfinder can accurately determine the depth and the bottom type as well.

They are used for various purposes, but sometimes, the user gets the unwanted signals that are the response of small fish in the water. They are useless for most anglers; these unwanted signals only fill the screen, which might result in ignoring precious information.

Reading the Lowrance fish finder to analyze the depth can be annoying if you keep getting interference from the small fish. There are different methods by which you can reduce or remove the small fish marking on the fish finder screen. In this article, we are going to discuss how to make the Lowrance fish finder stop marking small fishes.

How To Make Lowrance Depth Finder Stop Marking Small Fish

Control The Sensitivity

The best way to make the Lowrance depth finder stop marking the unwanted fish response is to reduce the sensitivity. The method of lowering sensitivity is straightforward. Follow these steps to change the sensitivity.

  • Go to the fish finder screen by changing the page.
  • Press the menu button and go to adjust.
  • Press enter, and it will show the sensitivity bar and the color line bar.
  • Reduce the sensitivity to some amount so that you would not get the response from the small fishes.

The technique to reduce the sensitivity is good if you do not want the small fish responses on the fish finder screen, but it will reduce other reactions also. There are also different ways to reduce or remove the small fish markings.

Control The Frequency

You can change the frequency of the fish finder so that you do not get interference from the small fish. The frequency can be adjusted easily on the Lowrance fish finder as:

  • Select the fish finder page by pressing the page button.
  • Press the menu button once; it will show the option. Go to the frequency option and press enter.
  • Usually, the settings are set to high CHIRP, but you can set it to low frequency.

Choosing the low frequency means that you get the response from the depth, but it neglects the small fishes due to its low accuracy. This is the easy way to remove the small fish interference without disturbing the depth finding.

You can also choose the manual frequency by following these steps:

  • Press the menu button twice while on the fish finder screen.
  • Go to the sonar option and press the right navigation key.
  • Go to the installation options and press enter.
  • Go to the transducer type and press enter.
  • The high-frequency transducer catches the fish response but choosing the low frequency diminishes that response.

Change The Mode

Changing the mode of the fish finder may also improve its performance and reduce the effects of unwanted small fish. You can change the mode of the fish finder by following these steps:

  • Press the menu button twice while on the fish finder screen.
  • Go to the sonar and press the right navigation key.
  • Go to the fishing mode and press enter.
  • It will show the list of menus on the screen. You can select any mode you like based on your requirement.

Reduce The Noise

You can also reduce the responses from unwanted fish by reducing noise interference. The noise interference occurs due to outside signals getting to the receiver of the fish finder. Follow these steps to reduce the noise:

  • Press the menu button on the fish finder screen.
  • Go down to the sonar options and press the right navigation key.
  • The first option would be noise rejection.
  • Press enter and select the noise rejection to medium or high.

Final Thoughts

The most common way is to stop marking small fishes. Reducing the sensitivity is an easy and quite common method to use.You can also change the frequency of the fish finder, and there are two methods of doing it. You can also change the mode of the fish finder and set it to deep water when you are measuring the depth, you can also reduce the noise interference of the fish finder. Thus  these are some successful techniques to stop marking the small fish on the screen.
